What does upscaling an image involve?

Upscaling an image means increasing its number of pixels so you can print it larger or display it on high-resolution screens. The challenge is to do it without visible pixels or jagged edges.

Our tool uses high-quality interpolation followed by an “unsharp mask” filter that restores a sense of sharpness at the edges. It does not invent detail like artificial-intelligence systems, but it delivers a clean, natural result without uploading your photos to any server.

Frequently asked questions

Does upscaling improve image quality?

It increases the size and smooths the pixels, but it cannot recover detail that does not exist in the original. Sharpening helps it look more defined.

What is the maximum size?

Up to 16,384 pixels per side. On phones with little memory, very large images may fail; try a smaller factor.

Which sharpening level should I choose?

“Medium” suits most photos. Use “Soft” for portraits and “Strong” for text, screenshots or illustrations.

Can I upscale for printing?

Yes. As a guide, to print a 20 × 30 cm (8 × 12 in) photo at 300 dpi you need about 2400 × 3500 pixels.
